A group from Yorktel recently came together to participate in a teambuilding activity that also gave back to the local community. The team worked together and ultimately built and donated 16 brand new high-end remote controlled (RC) racecars and 16 superhero capes to children associated with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana. The event took place at Le Meridien in New Orleans, LA on January 23, 2024.

Yorktel chose a program called “Crazy Carz 4 Kidz – Quiz Wiz Edition” in partnership with Impact 4 Good, that would be competitive and fun for participants, while making a difference. Impact 4 Good (www.impact4good.com) is a company that runs socially conscious teambuilding programs. During the activity, 100 participants competed in a challenging video trivia game show utilizing their computers and smart devices. Once the game began, points were awarded for correct answers, as well as bonus points for the fastest correct answer! After the points were tallied, and the winning team determined, the teams received the materials needed to make high-end remote controlled racecars and superhero capes. The cars do not just represent a brand-new gift for a child, but also a sense of freedom while staying in the hospital. The superhero capes provide children with a sense of power and strength during a time of their lives where they and their loved ones need it most!  Based on performance in the car-themed challenges, one team took home the victory, but the real winners were the kids!

Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana has a mission to provide a “home-away-from-home” to families of seriously ill or injured children and to provide programs that give comfort, compassion and care to children and their families. The New Orleans RMH opened in December of 1983 and it was the 53rd Ronald McDonald House to open in the United States. They currently have 22 private en-suite bedrooms with full baths, with a full chef’s kitchen, 60+ seat dining room, dual level laundry facilities, open playroom, library, game room, quiet nooks, a beautiful backyard with seating and picnic areas, relaxation areas and a living room.

Crystal Harris, Family Services Manager, attended the event to accept the donation, thank the participants, and speak a little bit about the work they do. Following the event, Grace McIntosh, Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana stated, “Thank you, Yorktel! Our families always appreciate any FUN and distraction for the kids at the House who are either in out-patient care or a sibling of a seriously ill or injured pediatric patient. Your generosity and thoughtfulness will be felt.”
